More than once I've thought about the long-term effects of the NIL on the young people it allegedly serves. Suddenly flush an individual with cash before they have any idea how to handle it, then poof - their basketball career is suddenly over (maybe a little overseas ball, but for most of them not). Worst case scenario - and probably about to become all too common - they blow through the NIL money and are left with no degree, no plan, and shaky prospects for the future.
As long as the NIL is in place, the ones making a long-term killing are the agents, not the players.

Athletes receiving NIL are supposed to get some education in saving, investment, etc., but let's be honest here, I doubt many are taking it seriously.

A large number weren't getting degrees before. Or getting worthless ones like a BA in Parks & Recreation Management. So now they get some money to go with no degree or a worthless one. Why is that bad? If a player truly wants a degree, it wouldn't matter if he went to 50 schools.
