Here's what you should be thinking of & answering for yourself (in addition to what I wrote in other posts)- Why do they want it? What is their current situation without your service? Why is it less than optimal? What makes them different from businesses or people who don't want/need your service? When will you start your business (written goals)? It may be best to visualize yourself starting your business. What are you doing? What do you have? What did you to make it possible for to be doing it? What did you do to get what you have? What's the best, most optimal thing you can do everyday to advance your situation? What will bring you significantly closer to being ready on your starting date? What can you do now (learn, invest in materials/equipment) to get you closer to achieving your long-term & short-term goals? When you plan to achieve something big, it's usually best to plan in reverse. Brief example - Opening day; be sure everything is ready for tomorrow; bring proof of insurance to clients; finalize insurance requirements; get insurance premium quotes Project management breaks down processes into critical path & secondary tasks. The critical path is made up of things that have to happen in right time frame for the success of the project. In other words, step 2 can't happen without step 1 being completed. Secondary tasks can happen in a more loose time frame (can be finished within days of the stated date) without disrupting the flow. Critical path tasks have to be done no later than the stated date or the whole project will be delayed. The example about getting insurance coverage may be a line of secondary tasks you'll plug into the critical path. You'd figure out when to start it & when the finished result (having the coverage) will intersect/become part of the critical path. So you should be determining which tasks are critical path items & which are secondary. Then schedule them in the optimum order. As you work backwards from visualizing the complete project, to the previous task, you'll be putting them in order of when you need to accompish them. Then figure out which are on the critical path. Those not on the critical path are secondary. Dennis S. Vogel thrivingbusiness@email.com When you compete against big businesses with big budgets you need powerful marketing strategies and tactics.
