Hi,

Thank you for using this forum.

I was hoping, by now, you'd have responses from people who know more about this.

It would be best to get opinions from more than one insurance agent. It'd probably be best to contact agents who represent more than company. Agents are apt to get most of their information from the companies they work for. Since knowledge levels vary, hopefully you get an accurate assessment of your needs from somebody.

As you go through your start-up process, you should have free initial consultations with 2-3 attorneys. They ought to know what your liability exposure is also.

For my business, I asked a lawyer & an accountant if I'd be required to collect sales tax. The lawyer said I wasn't required to do it. The accountant found the information & gave me a copy of it. Yes, his research costed me some money, but at least I knew.

You could do a preliminary search on the internet if your state has a legislative web site. In Wisconsin, we can check the "UNOFFICIAL" text of laws on the state's web site. After your preliminary search, you can lawyers & insurance agents how certain laws will affect you. But they may knw about more laws than ones you found.

Since legislators have to stay busy, they may pass laws while you're operating your business, so you should have somebody monitoring the legal situation. But also be pro-active & ask them, at least, once a year about new laws or judicial interpretations that may apply to your situation.

I know this is very general, but I hope it helps you.
