Vogel 's message, "Profitably Linking Your Business, Profession & Purpose Part 1" on 15:37:34 11/26/06 Sun Before I get back into the main subject of this message thread, I’ll encourage you to look for superior ways of doing things. Even if you think you already have the best methods, you should test other ways. I hope you’ll see many successes & you may see how people have failed. You can learn a lot from both. Ray Kroc must’ve seen many restaurants, while he was selling milk shake equipment. He probably noticed some restaurants went out of business & some survived. By observing different ways to do essentially the same things, he could determine what worked, how it worked & why. When he saw how the McDonald brothers codified & formulated what they did, he knew they did what others hadn’t figured out. Some call these processes, procedures or systems. Kroc added these to knowledge he already had. Segue To Main Subject When you think of Profitably Linking Your Business, Profession & Purpose, you should think of building a strong chain. It isn’t a chain of slavery; it’s a chain you can use to lift yourself & others to higher levels of success & freedom. While you observe, you should find more links to make your chain longer & stronger. You may replace some links, because the adage is correct—A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If you find why people do what they do, why they stopped or never did some things, you gain far better insight than just learning what they did & how they did it. You may learn why it works for them & why you’ll need to change their methods to fit your situation. By knowing why they do things, you’ll know how to make it stronger for you. What’s a strong & vital link, for somebody else, could be a weak link for you. If you add it to your chain “as is,” you may cause more problems. Also be careful so you don’t violate any laws by using legally protected proprietary systems, without permission. The chances of this happening are slim, but I should warn you about it. There are trade secrets, patents, copyrights, trademarks & service marks. There are penalties for violating these. Many times these are marked as legally protected by statements or symbols. An example is what I wrote in this forum, just above the discussion subject list. “Note- I reserve all rights to everything I've written in this forum…” In the USA, you’d usually be given a cease & desist notice, so you can stop the violation & avoid legal problems & penalties. You can emulate almost anything & you should find good things to emulate. Don’t let potential, but rare problems keep you from succeeding. Failure, from not finding better methods, is a bigger penalty & it’ll definitely happen, if you let it. I want you to succeed. Kroc bought the rights to use the McDonald’s brand & systems. Share The Wealth, But Don’t Force It To Be Shared Some claim we should divide the world’s wealth equally among everybody. I’m among those who say it wouldn’t make much difference. (I agree many charities are good & necessary.) It wouldn’t change anything long-term because many, who are wealthy, know how to become wealthy again; they have policies, plans, procedures & discipline to use them effectively. They believe they can & deserve to become & stay rich. Many of them have contacts & customer lists (database marketing). As long as they have something they can sell & others are willing & able to buy it, those who had riches will become rich again. Many, who are poor, are poor because they don’t have enough knowledge or discipline. Some aren’t willing to learn or don’t believe they can be or deserve to be rich. Some of them believe they’re entitled to have easy lives, though they’re not willing to be productive. Many would waste the money & opportunity if they were given their “equal share.” Example: Some are poor, but still buy & use tobacco. They complain about the high prices & taxes, but they don’t quit. They can quit; millions have & have never restarted abusing themselves by using tobacco. Many others would use their “equal share” to buy drugs & alcohol they don’t need. Robert G. Allen & others sell books, seminars & recorded instructions on how to get out of poverty. There are public libraries with books & web access available. It’s possible to ethically use their ideas & other people’s resources (money, facilities, time, energy, contacts, knowledge & ideas) to become successful. Some “authorities” aren’t legitimate, so please be careful. You should be able to get some of the knowledge for free & test it for little or no money. “The One Minute Millionaire” by Mark Victor Hansen & Robert G. Allen, plus Bob Allen’s other books about multiple streams of income have legitimate “links” (policies, plans, procedures, techniques, methods, systems or whatever you want to call them) you can use to build your chain of success. I don’t get any money for advocating these. I suggest checking these out from libraries (unless you can afford to buy them from a locally-based bookstore & support the economy). If a local library doesn’t have them, these may be available through inter-library loans. You can check out books from other libraries, without going to those libraries. Ask a library employee about this. Maybe you, or somebody you know, aren’t ready to start a full- or part-time business. Maybe you have children or disabled, elderly parents to care for or other full-time obligations. At least learn what you can, so you’ll be ready when your opportunity comes. As I wrote above, it takes discipline & beliefs (self-esteem & stubbornness among them). Part of believing you can do something is knowing how to do it. For self-esteem, start building small successes. Maybe real estate isn’t “your thing.” Bob Allen started with real estate, but he found other streams also. Real estate is a stream Ray Kroc used to build McD’s, but in a different way than Bob Allen. There are different methods in a stream of income. Dennis S. Vogel thrivingbusiness@email.com If you’re not actively building a stronger chain of success, your current links will rust. Your chain will be less effective because of competitors & changing situations. You need more information & methods to strength your chain.
