I watch Taro bound through the blaze before focusing my gaze on the wolf. "Come back." I cry. "We need your help. I need your help." I meet his eyes. Could it be? I think to myself,could it be him? Did he come back for me? I wanted him to stay. We all needed him to stay. And as much as I hated to admitt it, I needed him to stay. I dash off, looking back only to make sure Darkness was safe from the flames. He was. I stop right in front of the wolf. Staring straight into his eyes. For one enchanting moment, everything in the world stops and the only thing I see are those eyes. Memories come flowing through my mind like rapid waters going over a fall. I feel my heart beating faster, and faster still. My body feels frozen there in that position, and it feels as if a cool liquid is being poured over my heart. "Stay here" I whisper before darting out in the highway, just barely missing a car, and retrieving Taffy. There's one. I bring her back to safety up with Darkness. I think the wolf and Taro are helping me, but I'm not sure. I keep running back to get more pups until they are all safe. I pant wildly my eyes searching for the wolf...for Taro. I need to find them. My mind is whipping through the past and the present. I'm so confused. I wobble down toward the flames to look for them. I step on some hot grass and here my paw sizzle. I whimper a little but continue my search. I can hear my heart beating in the back of my head.
I catch a glimse of the wolf. A name slips into my mind. Is it really him? I choke back tears. I don't want him to leave. He can't leave. Don't...don't....
