Hello everyone.
I just want to say, "Well done!" to both Lorraine and Chris for your wise responses to dunbar's post regarding George endorsing alcohol. (No offense to you, dunbar, but I agree with them.)
People in our society often times do place the onus of tragedies due to irresponsible drinking on the alcohol itself and/or the makers of it, and this should not be. And, we certainly cannot put blame on celebrities who endorse it, either. They, as each one of us, have a right to enjoy liquor and should not fear sharing that with others if they wish. As Chris stated, it is not the alcohol, cars or guns that kill, but those who choose to be senseless with these.
It's unfortunate that most people in this world have become so infantile in their thinking that they now prefer to be "parented" rather than take responsibility for their own actions. Lorraine is right. I, too, would not want to live in a society where certain pleasures are banned because of a few among us who display carelessness with them.
And where would we draw the line? Cars and guns, as well as alcohol, can be dangerous when placed in the wrong hands. But what about fast food? (This may sound ridiculous, so sit down for this.) In all honesty, consider those who are obese, or who have been cautioned by their physicians to diet properly and yet continue to hurt themselves by overeating (especially the wrong types of food). Should we now question the morals of Ronald McDonald? I don't think so.
I hope I haven't offended anyone here (dunbar) with this post. It's just that I tend to feel strongly that our society is becoming very sluggish as well as childish when it's down to being responsible for themselves. Drinking, smoking, overeating, compulsive spending and the use of guns - they're all choices. All of these can be detrimental in their own way when we choose to take them to a foolish level. If it's a serious problem, there is help, but don't blame others for it.
Okay. There. Now all the world issues are solved. (Right. If only it was that easy!)
Before I go, I just want to say "Thank you" to Lorraine for the hearty laughter you bestowed on me in one of your replies to Jayde, I believe. She had posted the type of woman that George Clooney likes and you responded (I hope I have it right), "And yet, he hasn't phoned me!" I laughed so long at that one. That was such a cute response. I even laughed in bed later that night when I thought of it again!
I hope everyone is doing well. Maria, Lana, how are you? Maria, you're right. I see that we now have another "Angel" in our group. This is a "heavenly" forum! LOL!
Take care, all! I'll be back soon!
Hugs and kisses all around!
Angel
