Hi Jayde,

The UK? Is that where you hail from? This really is an international fan forum, isn't it! :-)

Is ER no longer running in Britain, then? That's surprising to hear as it is (and of course was, in its earlier days) such a phenomenally popular show. I've no idea how the programming for American tv shows in the UK works, so I don't know how to answer your question; sorry. Someone else posting here might be more helpful, I hope.

You do know though, that the various seasons of ER are being released on DVD, don't you Jayde? So if you have a DVD player, all is not lost for us hardcore GC/ER fans...

I now have almost all of the ER discs featuring GC--I even have 2 versions of the show's pilot episode, one of them a 1994 VHS tape of the original pilot show where Carol Hathaway (played by Julianna Margulies) successfully commits suicide over her busted love affair with Doug; the other (as part of the Season One DVD package) the slightly altered version where Carol survives the attempt.

I dunno for sure if it's true, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that television producers (or somebody) once tried to tempt GC and Miss Margulies with a "Doug and Carol" spin-off of some kind but it went nowhere because both actors wanted to move on to other things (GC's movie career in particular was really taking off around the time of his exit from the show.)

I would love to have seen a Doug and Carol "post ER" show, even if it was only, as you say, a one-shot thing. It would have been nice to see them marry, and a sweet sight watching reformed playboy Doug begin to get acquainted with his little girls. (sigh)

Oh, well. It was obviously not meant to be...

One thing that bothers me, though--how come when Mark Greene died, practically everyone from the ER was at his (poignant, highly emotional--at least for me) memorial service--everyone except Doug and Carol? Eriq La Salle (the soulful but arrogant Dr. Peter Benton) had recently left the show at that point, but had come back just for that appearance.

I've been watching the reruns of ER fairly steadily and over the summer saw the episodes chronicling the many changes in Mark Greene's life--his reconciliation with his dad, his courtship and marriage to Elizabeth Corday and the eventual arrival of their baby girl, his ups and downs with his teenage daughter, the shocking cancer diagnose--including his wrenching final days. If you know the show, you know that Doug and Mark were close friends as well as ER colleagues, so it's inconceivable to me that Doug (and Carol, once the "heart" of the ER) wouldn't be there at the end for him.

(By the way: Does anyone know what happened there? I read somewhere that GC had said he'd been willing to return for the episode(s) involving Mark Greene's death but the talks with producers fell through or something.)

Lorraine
