Merry Christmas Lana,

My Christmas has been pleasant so far and I hope yours is nice, too. I cooked Christmas Eve dinner for my mom and a few other family members yesterday, and we had a great time. Are you spending the holidays with family? And did I understand you to say that in Russia Christmas comes AFTER the New Year holiday? That's fascinating!

I've never heard of that, Christmas coming after the New Year--I'm typical of most Americans, I guess, forgetting that things can be different in other parts of the world.

Here in Chicago there is very little snow right now but it's quite windy--Chicago is affectionately known as the "Windy City"--and cold. We did have a big snowfall a few weeks ago, but it's melted since then, which is kind of disappointing. I like snow for Christmas.

When I was a little kid, Lana, going out to play in the snow on Christmas morning with your siblings, cousins, and neighbor and school friends was a big happy deal; lots of snowball fights, ice-skating on the big frozen pond near the University of Chicago, making angels in the snow and building snowmen--I have so many memories.

Well I haven't been a little kid in a long time, and today, with no snow, it looks very gray and cloudy outside my window; it's just not the same.

But this is Chicago--the big city of the American Midwest--and here it is officially winter (December 21st is considered the First Day of Winter), so I've no doubt we'll get plenty of snow sometime soon.

Are you understanding me okay? I warned you, I can get very talky--I hope you're following way of speaking without too much difficulty.

And I really know what you mean about this forum--it's good, isn't it, to have a place like this to connect with other people who like George Clooney (and other things) as much as you do.

Keep warm and Happy Holidays, Lana, :-)

Lorraine
