Subject: Mountain of Regret

Long, long we flew,
my wings grew tired
and I must rest if
but for a spell.
Janora gathered herbs
where I lighted and
made for us a healing brew.
When strenght returned
she mounted and we continued.
At last the dark mountain
hove within our view.
A mountain upon dark
and dismal, where the
bitter rue grows.
And, I saw it! A crevice
high upon that height.
The cave where some have
said hides the head of
Tricanthoran.
I entered the dank hole,
and folding my wings
against my sides, glided
deep into that cave.
Surely, it could not be
this easy!
"Hold, Jax," Janora cried,
and I settled into a crouch,
as she slipped from my back,
"look, over there? Is that
not an ancient sigel?"
I peered where she pointed.
And, yes, a sigel of protection!
"What now?" I asked "Know you how
to break yon spell?"
"Nay, but, I've heard that truth
and brave heart can overcome
the strongest spell. And, Jax,
the truth is that we must
have that head! And, if there
is a truer, braver heart than
yours, I know not where!"
And, she urged me forward.
A griffen does not fear to die,
he welcomes such a death!
Far better to die fighting,
for honor, right, and glory,
than to waste away in cloying age!
But, magic spells and witches craft
are something else again! Those
who die beneath them do not
die clean with honor.
Still, it needs be done, and,
though my heart does quail
and threatens to invade my throat,
I started forward, Janora just behind.
