The summoned warrior
returned whence he came.
Jax hissed, "hurry, Janora,
I grow weak from loss of blood,
we miss be free of this
accursed cavern or I die!"
Grasping the stinking head
of Tricoranth, I turned
and led the way pass
the glittering monoliths
and crooked paths.
I sensed that Jax
grew more faint
with each step
and hurried my own
to lead us free.
At last I saw a glimmer
of light!
"Look, Jax, light,
just a few more steps
and we are out of this
cursed cave."
"Go, Janora, I follow,"
Jax voice was thready,
I looked back and saw
his great wings draggling
in the dust, his head
hanging low, his beak
barely clearing the floor.
I ran to the entrance
and stuck the dragon's
head behind a guarding rock.
Then, hastened back to Jax.
Grasping his foretalon
I pulled and entreated
until at last he collapsed
at the entrance.
Running down the mount
I gathered feverease
and wound balm, filled
my water bottle and returned.
I bound the wounds as best
I could and bathed his fevers.
If he can survive the night
he will live. If not, I must
go return alone.
