Papa

I ride off to my father's home
he greets me at the gate,
"Child what of this?,
your eyes are full of hate."

"Papa, there is danger here,
I fear now for my life!
There are those who seek the throne,
aye, our majesty's wife!"

"Father, will you hear my plan?"
I whisper in his ear,
he suddenly springs to his feet,
"Child!" his anger sears.

"Daughter do not do this thing!"
His eyes are large and wet,
"I did not raise my girl this way,
for surely you'll regret!"

"Papa don't preach,
I'm in trouble deep!"
"I stand upon a slippery slope
that's growing ever steep!"

Reluctantly he looks my way
he wants not to succumb,
this is such a shock to him
he is all but numb.

"Father tell me of Belamore,
when he was in your care.
Was he a soldier you could trust,
now with the leg he wears?"

He cleared his throat and looked away,
"I cannot speak of that."
But I could see that he afeared
Belamore a rat.

I spoke of his tranparentness,
he said, "No, no child."
"But he was a bit delirious,
his confession ever wild."

"When he regained his conscience mind,
he was not the same.
For all that he had been put through,
who could ever blame?"

"What I say now is a warning,
you should let this be,
you should be ever mindful,
don't believe all you see."

"Father, I must see the king,
for the moment he is sound.
It will not be a secret long,
my belly grows more round."

"I must find a way to him
Sir Justin has him gripped,
in the throws of the opium
that Nickoli has slipped."

"Please beware my only girl,
you carry more than you,
now there is the regal blood
that's flowing royal blue!"

"Father I will heed thy words,
please do not be feared!"
I kissed his cheek and climbed my steed,
the cloudy day had cleared.

I resolve to tell the king
of his child that I bear,
the baby that was conceived
now his only heir.
