I am under instructions (under pain of dire consequences[g]) to contribute to this thread!

I love "Against the Wall" - I did when I first heard it and I still do. For me it starts an unmatchable sequence of songs through to "What Was". Not that I don't like the rest on either side of this sequence but ... well.

It's a a powerful evocation of desperate temptation and I do think it rings true. The melody and the vocals match the lyrics perfectly and yes, I am convinced that he has experienced the emotions he recounts. Hasn't he said several times that he won't / can't sing what he can't believe in? But he extracts emotion from everything doesn't he? He feels the song, not just sings it in tune. I would love to see "Against the Wall" performed. It must have been one heck of an album we didn't get!

Happy holidays!
