Noel,
You are a girl right up my alley. I am the proud Mom of the most exquisitely beautiful Collie in the world - Garrison. We got him from Michael Stipe's family - they rescued him from a horrible situation some years ago. He is a very macho 80 pounder. I, too prefer animals to humans. I have a tortoise - Mama Kitty (original, huh?) and her baby Star. The kitties live around the corner at my Mom's house and Garris lives here with us because he prefers to be the only non-human in the household.
I never really thought that our Steve was a cat person. I guess having been on the road so much he never had the time to give to a dog. All truly great people have animals and treat them like members of the family.
I had a maltese, Loverboy who would put his little white head to the speaker when Steve was singing and go to sleep. True story. He did that for 13 years until he died 3 yrs. ago. He loved that voice, too. No matter how loud it was or where in the house he was he would get as close to the speaker as possible. Ok, now I have to go cry....:(
