I don't think it matters if the Essentials CD outsells Arrival. I really don't think Journey (the new Journey) had much to do with Essentials release. I think it was more of a Steve Perry thing. He is the one driving it. In the interviews I've read Steve Perry was the one who was making the decisions as to what would and would not be on the album. Over on the Journey forum they have not commented on it at all, except one ad on their front page.

The reason that Essentials does not have any new stuff on it is that (from what I understand) the group had to sign agreements when Steve Perry left saying there would not be a greatest hits with Steve Augeri singing on it. I think I also read somewhere that because of this they can't mix the old and the new.

I heard some songs off Arrival... Not bad, but not the old Journey.
