Subject: New World Dutch Barns

Thom,
It is the interior core of the barn that makes it unique. Most of the weight of the roof sits on the H-frame bents, which are located in the center of the barn. The outstanding feature of the bents are the massive anchorbeams that tie the post together. This construction will allow the barn to stand for a very long time providing that the roof is kept tight. The outer sills can rot and the curtain walls can fall down but the main structure will still stand. Visit our site at nwdb2000.homestead.com/home.html to see the interior of some of the Mohawk Valley barns.
