If you don't mind the chunky look, you can get yourself a sabre from Toys'r'Us.

Either that or fashion your own (or buy from somewhere like Park Sabres). If you do that you need a dowl that's about 40" long with a diameter of 0.75". Wood is probably the best material to use, it's light and flexible and easy to replace. Aluminium is good because it hold's it's shape, but is relatively brittle if you're clanging a couple to together. The latest buzz in the fan-film community is graphite (ever since a story was broken that Lucas Film ordered a large number of graphite rods for Episode 3), but I reckon it's pricey.

I've done my first few test film with toy sabres, but I've been thinknig about ordering or making my own. Depends how much more filming I think I'm going to do that will need them.

If you're get any further with your plans, let me know on email or leave a message on the forum at my DV page.
