it's quite possibly the worst name for a genre ever invented. i believe it stems from "emotional hardcore" and basically seems to mean "songs about girls". stuff like saves the day and dashboard confessional are considered "emo". i personally think it's a load of bollocks, 'cos as far as i'm concerned any music worth listening to is emotional, be it political or whatever. but there y'go.
