Hey Will you musy ask yourself a few question first, which I suppose you already have but, what do you need it for? will it perform for all your needs? is there any emerging technologies that you should consider using and will the machine support them? you might find spending 3 times the amount you think you might have to initially is a bad thing its not! I spent nearly £4k in 1999 on an SGI Workstation and only as of late last year did I find it starting to feel tired compared to some machines out there now. Now if I had spent £1700 as I was going to, chances are I would have spent that same amount a year later and the year after that and the year after that etc, which if anything just means starting again and again, my only advice is start as you mean to go on, buy highend if your using it for animation and high bandwidth graphics, it IS worth it in the long run! email me personally if you want to conserning this, I dont mind helping out a fellow creative anytime.. for a start look at the 3dlabs new Wildcat VP Pro graphics cards, I rate them highly! a future purchase of mine for sure!
