((*headdesk* Forgot about the bugle. Let's just say that Chuth wasn't close enough to land before the bugle sounded, since he didn't go between? That would work, yeah.))

Heading for the place where the other bronzes have gathered, Chuth is less than a dragonlength from the ground when Whoth appears, bugling the signal to take off. He suddenly finds himself battered by the wind of seven sets of wings, as the others take off around him. Snarling in anger at them and himself, the red-toned bronze quickly angles upwards, seeing the distance left by the precious seconds he'd lost in that mix-up. Well, the only thing for it is to fly harder and faster than the others, and close that gap. Pumping his wings as hard as he can, he draws gradually closer to the pack, the slowness of his approach agonizing. But he can't throw his all into it, not yet, as an annoying but persistent voice yammers in the back of his mind. He has great endurance, yes, but he has to save some strength, because Shrineth can out-fly the strongest bronze at the worst of times, and now she has the stamina of the flight to sustain her. He can't just be stronger than her; it's impossible. He has to be smarter than her, and save his strength for when he needs it the most. This whispers through his thoughts, slightly outweighing the blazing lust that sends him after her, and he holds back, allowing himself to gain slowly instead of in a foolish burst of speed. Cursing the voice of reason, that annoying little whisper of good sense that keeps him from being overpowered by his emotions, he finally draws even with the others, just behind Quilth and Jariath. He could fly even with them, he knows it, but another part of him knows that being crowded up between too many others could do more harm than being behind them. It's hard to maneuver quickly when moving in the best direction to pursue the queen might send him crashing into another bronze. His eyes whirl red with lust, tinged with anxious yellow and admiring green, not quite fixed on the shimmering golden light ahead of them all. It's hard, nigh impossible, to tear his gaze from her glory, but if he doesn't pay attention to where the others are, all the desire burning through his veins will do no good at all. Seeing that he's clear, for the moment, to either side, he gives in to the blazing urge to impress her with his skill and agility, tucking in one wing and swinging into a barrel roll for several dragonlengths, then pulling out in a carefully rendered backflip through the air. It leaves him a bit behind where he was before, and again he has to rush to close the gap, but this time he feels no resentment at that distance; he must pay court to Shrineth as he sees fit, and Chuth has always shown off for her. Why stop now, what he'd begun as a weyrling? Win or lose, he must do his best in this flight, out of respect as much as desire. His queen deserves only the best from her willing servant.

Once again, as he's always been, T'gan is the voice of reason in his dragon's mind - a soft whisper threading through the tumult of emotions that threatens to overwhelm them both, "Be careful, save your strength, don't throw it all away...." But this time, he's part of his dragon, not an outside restraint on the bronze but an inner voice to balance out Chuth's wild, surging desire. He's never shared that desire, not in this case; he's always been a quiet subordinate, simply doing what needs to be done on behalf of his Weyrwoman. Always before, he's looked at Wessae and seen a Weyrwoman and, dare he say it, a friend, but not a woman accessible or desirable to him. Now, with Chuth's emotions and desires washing through his mind, he turns green eyes on her, and sees for the first time someone he wants as well as likes. And right now, more Chuth than T'gan, he can't step back or pull away from that view. Giving in without a fight, he throws Chuth all the freedom he needs, as he's never done before. In this flight, the dragon is in charge, with T'gan only there to breathe words of common sense when Chuth's impulses would ruin their chances. They make a better team this way, and if he had any room left for thoughts not centered around a beautiful Queen and a beautiful woman, T'gan would wonder why he hadn't realized it before.
