Re: Info On Rotex 447 engine -- No name, 21:57:51 04/18/03 Fri
I bought a used 447 back in 1998. It supposedly had just been overhauled. I installed it (inverted) on my single-seater Beaver, and flew it for over 400 hours without any problem. On my last flight, I reached 70MPH in level flight, and the 447 was purring like a kitten.
When I later took it apart for overhaul, I found it had two bad crankshaft bearings, the piston rings were worn out, the heads were badly carbonned up, the cylinders were out of round.... Not worth re-building.
Would I get another one? Absolutely! In fact, I am looking for one, this time with electric start and CDI.
