How would a novice skipper like myself learn to read charts?
I checked into The Coast Guard Axulliary courses and they won't start up for a few months. I need to learn how to plot a course, read a GPS (which I understand are becoming user friendly ) Loran, and Radar. I did take a dive class 12 years ago and I have some experience with a compass, but this is boating, and there is no gas stations to ask directions.
If I could chat with someone who has some experience they are willing to share, it would be much appricated.
I will be checking into handheld GPS's and even a Radar, which I feel is very important. I have been caught in soup, and I made it back with my compass, but it was a nail biter.
Mike
