The following is an email that I had recently received from a contact of mine in Florida:

It seems like this time of year, summertime, a few species of
bottom
fish are spawning. My guess is that is what brings in the bull sharks,
must
be easy pickins' for dinner! Sunday we were hunting a barge in 50ft of
water
(free diving) and I wasn't in the water more than 20 seconds when this
giant
bull shark came up from the deep with 5 nice size cobia swimming right
below
him. I could have shot a cobia, but would have lost him to that shark
instantly and did not want to risk losing a shaft. The bull sharks
seemed to
hang around as long as we stayed in the water. It's like they knew as
soon
as we speared a fish, they would snag it. Like they had done this
before! A
few local old timers told me that these bull sharks could be very
aggressive
when it's eating time. They do come close!

If you plan on coming down, plan on doing it ASAP. I don't know how
long
these sharks will be around. For some reason, I have noticed more
sharks
this year than in other seasons. As far as my Riffe speargun goes, yes,
I am
still using my blue water gun and I love it. It's a cannon! I use it
strictly in the gulf stream. When I do bottom hunting, I use a Mares
compressed-air loaded speargun. It is quicker to load than a band gun,
and
very accurate. If you send me your mailing address, I'll send you some
photos and testimonies. In one case, I had someone for a demo who
wanted to
see sharks. So I took him to that deep ledge I was telling you about.
I
caught a few Bonita on a spinning rod and stuck a hole in them with a
knife
so they would bleed, and then threw them back in. The diver said he saw
one
of the bull sharks come up and inhale the whole, 20lb Bonita in one
bite! He
loved it!
Anyway, keep in touch and hope to meet you soon.
Tony
