"albies , blues and yellowtail"
Posted by superfly on Aug-04-99 at 09:26 AM (PDT)

left point loma monday night, we headed 180 degrees out of the harbor. (seas were from the
west with a little wind chop, it was suppose to be small craft at outerwaters)

we got our first strike at 6:45 am, 52 miles down and 31 miles from the beach. (180 course) turned out to be a signal albie stop. ten min. later we got a double jig strike and the fish really came to the boat. ended the stop with 15 fish, caught on dines and iron. (fish were 15lbs to 22 lbs) we fished down to about 65 miles on a 180
heading, picked up a few more jig stops and bait
fish, but not the volume we were looking for. soo, we headed toward the 500 and found a patty loaded with 12 to 24lb yellow tail. the patty
was really loaded and I guess we could have caught as much as we wanted, so we limited out on yellows and cont. to look for allies. decided to travel west, one hour of rolling and trolling I was thinking we had made a wrong move, but we soon got a signel jig strike and the fish really came thick under the boat. all rods went bendo, it was a matter of fight and gaff your own fish. we weren't even chumming
and they were still tight to us. a biger class of albies came though (up to 36lbs) then the blues 15 to 20lbs) found us. anything thrown to them was instant.
with ice chest, kill bag and 1/2 bait tank loaded
with fish it was time to call it quits. fish were still
wanting and willing. (54 miles down)
fish really were in the mood (they took 30
and 40
lb with no problem) feather colors were the usual black/purple , mexican flag, and green and yellow. iron worked good on the slide for the albies. sardine was automatic (4-5 inchers)
weather was starting to flatten down on the way
up.

was a great trip, all the albies, yellows and blues
you wanted for 4 people........go get them.......

Just doesn't get any better than that.

Tight lines Jim
