Date Posted: 938979872PDT I have this freind Johnny who is this wild crazy drunk musicion, when I hang out with him I find myself playing the straight guy, the voice of moderation. It's weird because I used be the wild one, I guess I'm just getting older, and a little milder with age, I try to think of it like wine. In the shark scene I find myself playing the moderate or in between role. There are guys who think you shouldn't take any sharks, there's guys who think things are fine and it's doesn't matter how many sharks you take. Well I'm in betweeen. I think it's easier to get people excited with grandious statements. "The world is going to end get ready now or else" Politicions preachers and political extremists love this kind of stuff. Just watch the news it's not a rain storm it's "STORM WATCH 98". If you want veiwers you make it sound big and urgent. I kind of equate this to calling "WOLF" the problem is that if you do it too much people stop listening. This can be a real problem if there realy is a wolf out there. I run into this a lot in talking politics, people say things like hey all those guys in the 60's said it was all going down the tubes but whats happened!? Well the world moves slow but it has a lot of inertia when it gets going. Small changes in a scale of a year add up to major changes in thousands of years. In shark terms even a small loss of population per year can add up to a real problem in time. My major concern with sharks and for that matter the planet as a whole has to do with sustainability, I want to see sharks around for the future. Any fishing method that is not sustainable in my book is wrong, bottom line. I don't have the time to post all this now so I'll post more later. tight lines Jim [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
