Date Posted: 939903045PDT G'day Jim, The biggest Tiger I have seen landed in this area was 13' but there are a lot of big tigers in this area probably because of it's remoteness and sparse population. We see a number of 12 - 14' tigers off the jetty in town. The largest tiger I have seen was HUGE it was difficult to judge exactly as we were fishing off a 75 foot cliff but the bait it was following was 10 inches long and when just in front of the sharks nose the tiger was 3 to 4 times that lenght between the eyes. I have seen a 10' tiger caught off the jetty here and it was about 14" between the eyes. From the top of the cliff we estimated about 17" and I feel that was fairly conservative. Tigers have a bad reputation here but the vast majority of our possitively identified killers are whalers. The only cases I know of in Aussie waters of people being totally eaten have been Whites with skin divers around seal colonies (bit silly I reckon). As to the swimmers, I would get out of the water. Not that I'm overly paronoid about being eaten but I don't think it is worth the chance. Glen [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
