James. His name is James Waterston.

And I don't know. Randall Batinkoff's David, usually made me want to hurt him physically. lol He kept pushing trying to "make" Christy have feelings for him and when she was confused or whatever, would get angry with her. I loathed the David character. I hated him in the book and I hated him worse in the series.

I didn't watch Christy when it was on tv originally because I was sure they'd make her end up with David, but I really wanted her with Neil! And yay, they did...even if it took a while. lol

I'll say one thing though. I watched the series and then read the book and was surprised at how they found an actor like Stewart who so much resembled the description of the doctor character in the book.

I agree about the David character. He pushed. I think it made the Dr. McNeill character more attractive that he stayed back some in the show; showed his interested/admiration for Christy in more subtle ways than David did.

Yes, Stewart very much fits the description of Doc MacNeill in the book. Except in the book he had golden eyes and Stewart doesn't. But who cares right? lol

One of the David scenes in the series that bugs me most, is at the end of The Lie, when Christy is doing the voiceover at the very end, saying the events had made David her knight in shining armour.....i was like we're we seeing the same event? Cuz he shunned her just like everybody else did, until he saw that Dr. MacNeill was going to tell what had happened, then he figured he'd step up to do the right thing. Also, in Green Apples, he pushed his way into the mission after Doc told him to stay out, obviously because of Christy and uses his affection for the people as an afterthough. I always thought it as major bs when he said he cared for them. And when he called it his mission, I think he meant that as that meant he was IMPORTANT therefore he could do what he wanted.

Can you tell he bugs me? lol

Well, I feel better for "David" now ...
- 'cause ...
after reading through the last few messages in this thread ...
I learned that in "real life" ... the real "David" wasn't sad at all because he and "Christy" actually married and lived "happily ever after"!
- and, in the series, "Doc" won "Christy's" heart! :)

So ...
Happy endings all the way around!
And ...
Thank goodness Stewart came back to play "Doc MacNeill" 'cause otherwise it wouldn't have been the same!

The episode that bugs me about David is in Judgement Day when he's mad that rest of the Cove won't help him put up the telephone posts and then tell Dr. Ferrand (after his arm is cut) that he wonders if these people have souls that need saving. (para-phrasing) I agree with Neeney that it seemed he only cared about the people of the Cove when it suited him. In "Eye of the Storm" (my favorite epiosde) I like at the end that Christy points out he thinks he can kiss her anytime he wants and that she is the only available female his age in 50 miles. I was glad she pointed out the obvious!

OT, anyone going to the Garagiste Festival this year??
