You're welcome, BC! Wasn't it fascinating? I guess that whole celibacy issue didn't work to their advantage, which is really too bad because their dedication, work ethic and way of life is really admirable. It's sad to think that there are just a few Shakers left. We were thinking how amazing it would be to join them, even for a little while, but then how would we explain the kids? Whoops.
You should visit the communities close to you and take lots of pictures! Their simple style of architecture and building design is beautiful. I think we're going to visit the one in Enfield, CT and maybe the ones in NH and ME this summer if we travel East (fuel prices pending).
