Subject: ANYONE REMEMBER "hee haw"????

At my great grandparents home in the thumb of Michigan, where Pioneer Sugar is grown and made, there is little tv reception of any kind. In fact, the town didn't even get a MCDonalds until about 16 years ago. If you blink, you might not even notice you were there except for the smell of sugar beets and chicken farms.

But there was one thing I love about his house......"HEE HAW!" We'd pull out the sofa sleeper and all four kids would stretch out to watch it on their black and white tv. Great grandma would interrupt every 15 minutes or so begging us to eat more ice cream, more chips, more whatever was in her cupboards......like the terrific southern woman that she was, she just had to keep us "Not so puny" kids fed.

We sang with grandpa, laughed with minnie pearl and fell asleep to Roy clark on the banjo.

Yes, that was the good old days!

Then the next day my dad and I would sit on the front porch with my great grandfather and drink our favorite drink in all the work. GLASS BOTTLED MOUNTAIN DEW---Oh, if you have never had the pleasure you are truly missing out!! I wish I could go back to that moment, hear the fishing stories from them once again and sip that cold liquid while rocking on the porch.

I love watching Hee-Haw!!! When I was little, we used to go to my great aunt and uncles house in Carrolton, AL for long weekend visits. I loved sitting on the floor by my aunt and wathing Hee-Haw and drinking Coca-Cola from a glass bottle. I slept on their pull-out sofa bed in the living room in front of the fireplace with the fire still going. My uncle had a pair of Hee-Haw overalls and they had a ShotGun Red doll. They lived way out in the country and we all had such fun. They are both gone now, but I have wonderful memories and I am thankful that my daughter got to know them and experience those same things.

I grew up with Hee Haw, and as I worked at Opryland, I got to see some taping of the shows (in the Opry House studios). My grandparents didn't like the tapings too much, too much sitting, not enough show, it was quite a bit of work. It was a great learning experience and a lot of laughs. Doom and depair was a favorite of mine and Dad and I sure could sing off key...

BTW, the Opry House has reopened for business, I'm feeling a show coming on...

See ya'll later!

Janet
