Subject: TIme for a change - take 2

I have been on this board since 1994 or 1995, when it first started. In all that time there have been several tense moments but never before has there been a call for moderators. I do agree that there have been times when the board has gone in various odd directions and meandered; however, I honestly feel that Cathy's original post on feminine hygiene products, had no malicious intentions. Perhaps, as she herself admitted, it was an error in judgment brought on because of her high comfort level in posting at this site or because of her less inhibited personality. I commend Cathy for her posted apology as I have little doubt that she feels embarrassed, defensive and hurt by the very public scolding. I agree that her comment that Stewart “failed” her kids was poorly worded, wrong and hurtful mainly because there should never have been any expectations put on Stewart to begin with by her or her children. Again, she has apologized.

I do agree that at various times, especially over the last few years, the board has become cluttered with totally irrelevant, sometimes even bizarre, wordy or personal posts. There have been virtual parties and a lot of nonsense threads that seem to go on and on. However, I too am guilty because I too have occasionally posted things that I know would be of more interest to others rather than to Stewart. That said, I will agree that many of us, me included, need to be more conscious of what we post here. Sometimes people post very silly or even bordering on rude or negative things, apparently in the hopes of getting Stewart's attention in whatever way possible.

I have to admit that at 53, my days of drooling are pretty much behind me. However, having met Stewart for the first time in 1994 on the “Christy”set in Townsend and having been on this site for ages, I feel somewhat sentimental about the site. That is why I dislike seeing hurtful posts. During this Christmas season, can't we just take a big sigh and forgive any real or perceived infraction? And begin the New Year with a new understanding and set set of rules?

I am not sure that moderation is what is needed here as much a simple list of rules and regulations for the board. I have to admit, I do not feel comfortable, especially after years of being here, with having my posts being moderated and will feel self-conscious about posting, as I am now. However, if there were a list of rules and regulations (being a concrete realist) I would be much more comfortable. But Stewart, as you have chosen moderators over rules, then it will be up to me to decide my comfort level in being here.

Wishing you all the best and a joyous Christmas season and New Year.

Debbie S.

Goodness, I have been sick for a few months and I check in and all kinds of things are happening. I do agree with Stewart that you can't read emotions into what anyone posts on here. Maybe a moderator is needed; I haven't been on here as long as some of you. I am sure that Stewart will pick the right person to be the moderator. Maybe everyone just needs to take a step back and look at everything again.

Now, with that said, I hope everyone of you has a very Merry Christmas. You, too, Stewart.

Hi Debbie,

Wouldn't a moderator basically make sure the rules are being followed? Where I work we have a list of very clear rules. Unfortunately, many of the rules are ignored by most employees until our boss finally steps in to enforce them.

Jodi, you are exactly right in your definition of a moderator. Moderators aren't there to censor expression of opinions. They're around to firmly, but fairly, keep things on course.
