There was a day when Fred Roger's car (an old Buick, IIRC) was stolen. Later that day, the car was found in the same parking spot with a note attached to the windshield which said, "Sorry. We didn't know it was YOUR car."

I has also been said that the gentle demeanor he used when talking with his young television audience was actually not an act, that that was simply his real personality, the way he communicated with everyone.
