Note: U.N meetings are covered very well here in the states...its a matter of tuning in.

For those of you saying Bush is a fool without precedent in what he's doing,
In 91, UNSC Resolution 688 stated that the Iraqi government threatened the international peace and secuity in the region. we haven't done anything for 12 years you say? of course we have.

Operation Dessert Strike in 96 when we bombed them again because Saddam wasn't giving support to the Kurds in the north and arabs in the south.
Operation DessertThunder in 97 was yet another time that UN Inspectors were hampered and Saddam had the gaul to shoot down recon flights.
note that in 98 operation Dessert Fox was launched bombing military targets in Iraq because hussein was hampering the United Nations commision inspectors efforts. 4 days of intense air assault. Question. Who was president in 96, 97 and 98? Was it idiot Bush?
Late 97, early 98 Operation Phoenix Scorpion where the deployment of bomboers and fighters to the persian gulf area. Why? Iraq's defies UN weapons inspectors.
All US led operations with UN Coalition forces backing.

As to the threat of Saddam, the man that made his big push into Kuwait. The Man who authorized the launching of scuds into Saudi Arabia and Israel. The man who announced that soldiers were positioned near prisoners and parked tanks near hospitals during the gulf war. The man who authorized the burning of oil fields in his scorched earth policy. The man who refuses food to his own people when external pressure rises. People are starving while saddam spends billions on his own palace.Saddam's systematic killings and relocations of civilians have caused thousands of deaths. We know this stuff. BBC, CNN, the senate...we KNOW this stuff. But he obviously isn't lying, right? He's not a threat. His people love him. He has a 100% approval rating after all and at a recent vote 100% of the Iraqi population wanted him as their leader. But he's not lying. UN inspectors finally gets to interview some scientists in private and they'll definitely tell us the truth, right? since they'll be in private with with UN inspectors and free to live in Iraq (wherever Saddam tells them to that is) they'll tell the truth, right?

Hrmm...and the UN Resolutions that we're "rushing" to war for? The recent ones or the past ones? I wonder. http://www.un.org/apps/news/infocusRel.asp?infocusID=50&Body=Iraq&Body1=inspect
Iraq has not fully declared and destroyed its war program. (UNSCRs 687, 707, 715, 1051)
Iraq has not returned Kuwaiti and 3rd Country POWS UNSCRs 686 and
Iraq has not returned all stolen Kuwaiti property (UNSCR 686)
Iraq has not stopped repressing its civilian population (UNSCR 688)
5 Nov 1998 Security Council resolution 1205 (1998) unanimously condemns Iraq’s actions and demands that Iraq rescind immediately and unconditionally its decisions of 31 October and 5 August.

Fact is that the UN Resolutions don't mean jack squat to Saddam. He has been labeled a continued threat to the region and yet, because we're all so disconnected, we start touting the gospel of no-war.

As for who supports the war (nation wise) stop listening to the media's focusing on France, China and Russia with their veto power. there's tons of other countries (http://www.un.org/Overview/unmember.html) who have a say and they don't enjoy having Saddam there just may not have the power to vote. True they support more inspections but they also say inspections with a deadline.

Saddam is a monster that should've been killed years ago.. Now we find the nations at a junction and a defunct UN wallows in its own resolutions and wonders how to gain credibility.

Comparing the US actions to terrorism is more than uninformed it's completely a lie. Oh but the Terrorist US and it's attacks on other countries? How Dare we? Let's take Afghanistan where the US went in and dismantled the Taliban run government and now 2.4 million refugees returned to afghanistan. Boys and Girls both can go to school. True, the situation still is potentially volatile there, but the Big Bad US has affected a change for the better in that country. Or mayhaps in Yugoslavia where the UN resolutions were doing nothing about the Tyrant over there. Clinton ordered bombings and Milosovich was brought to a form of justice. True it's not finished as of yet with him but that's not the fault of the UN or the US but of the Hague. The UN was told time and time and time again to do something about that situation where people were being killed in Milosovich's Ethnic Cleansing Policy. The US was unleashed by Bill Clinton and the results were achieved.

War sucks. I hate it. Truth is I would rather we didn't do it. But we have a problem in that area and that is our Modern Day Hitler. 9/11 proved that America is not untouchable and the great divide of the ocean is getting narrower. It woke the US to the fact that no country is really untouchable (if they didn't already learn the lesson of Isolationism not working during Japan's attack of Pearl Harbor) Does it justify a preemptive war? That's a lesson for history to decide and not Jean garoffolo. Does it justify not doing anything? Surely not.

Final note. The UN inspected Iraq and they didn't have weapons of mass destruction. No chemical weapons. No long range missles. Iraq is huge and the UN was looking. they were looking up until the day they were pulled out of Iraq and the long range missles loaded with anthrax, VX, botulism were used against coalition forces.
