throw in US Isolationist policy and you had a wonderful mixture for disaster. I mean, there's been some discussion that one of Germany's greatest mistakes was becoming allied with the Japanese...in light of Pearl Harbor and US joining the fray there seems to be a decent point there.

As for Bush's statement "if you're not with us, you're against us" I must say I did cringe when he said it...not so much because it's us against the world but because it can be perceived that way. Being the world's only super power (i'm sorry, i'm not boasting) comes with some responsibility and we must realize that any statments made by the US or representatives thereof sounds one hundred times more domineering in light of the US status. Donald Rummsfield being a perfect example of saying what he believes and the consequences be damned...well, until he realizes he messed up and has to retract his statements.

But I digress. Yes. His statement was oversimplified but I guess space and the point of the article were his focus.
