Subject: Australia wins its first gold medals

We've never won gold at a Winter Olympics before, since Australia is a country with no true winter where snow is an alien concept to most of us...

The Steven Bradbury story -- t'was luck that brought us our first gold.

Alisa Camplin -- no fluke here, nothing but raw talent and skill

I doubt Australia will win the medal tally. With only two gold medals, it ranks us at 11th place. Still, we only usually enter these games for the sheer sport of it, and the fact that in the entire history of the Winter Olympics, we have NEVER won a medal until this week where TWO gold medals were won is really something to be happy about.

When you look at the medal tally, the top ten countries which are coming ahead of us are all countries which do have a real winter season. Australia only really has two seasons -- wet and dry. So all things considered, we're doing a pretty good job.
