Not that "Rebirth" was the pinnacle of story-telling by a long shot, but it had that certain je ne sais quoi that made it kinda fun. It was third rate, but one could revel in its third-rate-ness. The Japanese Headmaster episodes that I've seen, while having technically superior storytelling, also took themselves too seriously. Or perhaps it was just that they weren't good enough to take themselves seriously. In any case, I've found that I can pop myself a bag of popcorn and watch "Rebirth" with a certain childish glee, but I find the Japanese Headmaster episodes to be insufferable.
