I was taught by several teachers who might fit the favorite description; Ms Anderson, second grade who taught me how to understand what I read; Mrs Green, third grade who tried patiently to overcome my hatred of math (she failed); Mrs Nolan, fifth grade who instilled a love of literature and reading; Mrs Hobson, 7 - 8 grades who helped me realize my self-worth; and, perhaps the teacher who made the greatest ddifference in my life, Mr McQueen, nunior and senior English. As payment for my volunteer work for him one summer stacking and sorting books he gave me an English grammar book that I still possess despite my many moves since graduation. He constantly told me, "Go to college." When I wrote him years later that I had finally earned a BA with honors, it was too late; he had died a couple of years before my letter of thanks for his encouragement could reach him. While all my teachers (most of them any way) were influential, Mr McQueen was my all time favorite.
