Subject: Callie Ann

I just returned home after attending Callie's funeral at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox church in Syracuse. This type of service was something I had never experienced. Most of the service was sung and in Greek, unintelligible to many of us except when Callie Ann's name was inserted into the text. There was also reading of scripture, for which I was thankful and some responses in English. Too much incense from where I sat however.

I write this to tell you that the Class of '61ers occupied nearly a whole row. We were 6 deep, including aside from myself, Mike, Liz, Hazel, Sue, and Nancy Hague. Whatever family and friends (retired teachers) I spoke with, they all volunteered how much her class and her class reunions meant to Callie. All present were then given the opportunity to file past the casket one last time, at the end of the service to say our final farewells. There must have been maybe 125+ there. Callie and I spent some time together. Her hand was cold. I am sorry to see her go, still too young. She will be missed by many. -D.
