I think we have to agree on the meaning/connotation of the word "ignorance" in context. I get the feeling that most people using the word today, especially when they call someone "ignorant", use it in a negative way...equating ignorance with stupidity. It's not. Ignorance is the lack of knowledge. One can be highly intelligent but still ignorant. Highly intelligent people are not stupid. Stupidity is a lack of intelligence.

A stretch away from the quote, but I had to qualify what we're discussing. I agree that ignorance coupled with power can be destructive...but not nearly as stupidity with power. I would hope that those with power have intelligence, in fact, people with power got it either through wealth, or through authority (assumed or designated) or more acceptably through intelligence. If through wealth or authority, one might question motives. If through intelligence, ignorance can become informed.. informed power may still be misused, but, optimist that I am,my faith in people leads me to believe what is done is with the greater good at the root.

Now...to steer this into practice, I recommend anyone concerned with the state of our federal government read JFK's preface to his book "Profiles in Courage". Just the preface. It provides insightful and experienced information as to the reasons we're in the fix we're in, and might stimulate thought and action toward "draining the swamp."
