To all classmates, but especially those who have short hair or wear their hair short.

I recently had a bout with skin cancer on the outside of my right ear. It started when I noticed every morning after a nights' sleep I would have small blood splotches on my pillowcase. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from at first. Then it dawned on me that it had to be my ear. I couldn't see it as it was on the backside and looking in a mirror didn't help either. I didn't go to the doctor right away, because I thought it would heal on its own. When it would scab over and bleed I told my regular physician who told me that it had to be removed.

This past February I proceeded to have a biopsy done by a dermatologist and the results came back positive for basil cell carcinoma.

Last month I had surgery to remove the cancer from the inside of the outer part of my ear. An incision a little wider than a quarter is long was made. It was an all day procedure where the surgeon was able to remove it all. I had to go back three times in that day.

I was able to shower each day, wash it and apply the medication and gauze. The ear is finally healed over after six weeks of wearing gauze on it twenty-four hours each day.

To find out my progress each day I would take a photo of it with my camera.

Incidentally the cause of this cancer is from the sun over a long period of time. Many of us forget to use sun tan products on our ears or wear wide brimmed hats to protect ourselves.

Maybe some of you have already experienced this, but I thought I would tell you what happened to me.

So if you should wake up some morning and find blood on your pillowcase and wonder were it is coming from, check out your ears first for any sores that won't heal.
