Subject: Who cares what the Europeans think?

I'm reading all this worry and angst about what the Europeans feel. My question is "so what?" Who the heck cares?

When was the last time the Europeans did anything for the US? As I recall, the French wouldn't even give us fly-over rights when we struck back at Libya. After WWII it was the French who administered Syria, Algiers, Tunisia, and Morocco. If they had adopted a policy of democracy instead of colonialism we may not have the problems we do today. It was French bungling that got us involved in Southeast Asia.

What are the French going to do if they don't like our approach to Iraq? Go on strike? Be ruder and more arrogant to American tourists? Refuse to take a bath and shave? It was a French Exocet missile that hit a British destroyer during the battle of the Falklands. Just before the Allies liberated North Africa, the French military governor of Algeria forbade Eisenhower from coming ashore unless he surrendered command of all troops to him and him alone. Talk about arrogance!

So it would seem to me that we have very little to expect from the Europeans, especially the French, if we proceed or not. And if we decide to kow-tow to the French, who's next? The Italians? The Albanians? The Mongols? The Guatamalians?
