Horatio Nelson Cleveland is a relative of mine as well. He fought at the Battle of San Jacinto and his name is on the obelisk honoring the men who fought there. I visited the memorial years ago. H had to have come from military somewhere else as the BOSJ lasted only 18 minutes. He is the son of Ezra and Hannah Auchmady Crandall Cleveland, b. 1799. An unfortunate record at the Herzstein Library, Veteran Biographies, has a letter from Captain Cleveland to Colonel William Pettus dated Houston, May 8, 1840 that he was going to take his own life. He was declared legally dead 29 July 1840. I wish this were not true, but that is what I have found. It has been some time, but I believe he was born in Cocyman's Patent, New York at least his parents were from there. I hope this helps in some small way. I know Benjamin Cleveland comes up from time to time, however, I do not know how he ties in with H.N. Cleveland. Please let me know when you find out.
