Glenn,
Thank you for your reply. First, Amaziah 1 was married to Abigail Sprang 30 Jan 1770. She died on 26 March 1774. They had one daughter Sarah 1772. I don't have exact date he married Sarah Marvin but probably was later in 1774. Mersena was born 9/19/1775 and Meres 3/13 1776 I am not sure how this is possible unless Mersena or Meres' dates are incorrect by a few months; however, I do believe that Sarah Marvin is their mother. (I have found more than one record in a family bible which was incorrect. My own great grandmother recorded the death year of her husband incorrectly. So it is possible for Meres or Mersena's birthdate be recorded incorrectly.)
Amaziah 3 could be Mersena's son but some documentation would be needed to be sure. My gggrandfather is Meres and I know he married and had children in NY. What census shows some of Amaziah 1's children were born in Canada?
I believe that Ezer and Ebenezer may be the same because Ezar Cleveland is buried in Lawrence Co IN and his record says
Died 27 October 1853 Age: 72 y 5 m and 28 d. His birthmonth would not be the same as Ebenezer but he was born in 1781. I also believe that Ebenezer married Martha Wadkins and I believe she is also buried there. I am not positive about this but I do have a source checking this for me.
I think there is more than one Marcena (Mersena). Families tended to name children after father, other siblings or relatives. I haven't really researched this because I am really trying to get the Amaziah records straight.
I guess we'll just have to keep looking to find documentation for Amaziah 3.
Jafra

Jafra,

According to the 3 Vol. Cleveland Genealogy, Amaziah 1 had a son named Azamiah (2) with Sara Marvin, no date, could be the one born in 1779, born after Adden. The first child listed is Adden. Unfortunately, there is nothing about Abigail Sprang. It seems that the dates of birth that you have on Marcena and Meres may be wrong. It is my contention that they are Amasiah and Abigails' children. If you look at the 1850 and later censuses on Meres' son Warren, you see that he was born in New York around 1801 or 1807 and his brother Moses P. was born in either Kentucky, Canada or Virginia. Also, Ezer D is listed as being born in North Carolina in 1850, and Canada in 1860 and 1870. Take your pick. I still think that Amaziah (3) is Marcena (Merssens') son. It seems that Mercena, Ezer and Amaziah (3) are found in Clark Co., Indiana in close proximity to each other, which is a sign of family unity.
There are two Ezers. One was the son of Amaziah (1) and the other is Ezer D Cleveland. Ezer (b:1782),is the son of Amaziah (1) and the other is what I think is the son of Marcena. In the 1810 Jassemine Co., Kentucky census for Marcena 4 males under 5 are shown. I contend (no proof)
that thes are Amaziah (3), Ezer D, Moses and a Noah T./Noel.
Like I said before, I am looking forward to any responses (if any) to these notes.
By the way, if you do not have access to Ancestry.com or the 3 Vol. Cleveland Genealogy by Edmund Janes Cleveland, I recommend that you do so. Instead of paying the $150 per volume of the Cleveland Genealogies you can get a CD for $25 from Garth Cleveland at www.info@gpccw.com. It helps, but the majority of the information that we need is not there, but with the historical information it is.

Glenn,
I am still working on Amaziah Cleveland's children. I have been corresponding with Mike Cleveland who lives in Missouri the past several weeks. I did some research for him when I went to IN recently and in return he sent me a copy of the Bible page that belonged to Amaziah (1) Cleveland. He is a descendant of Amaziah Cleveland (through Ezer) and this page has always been in his family's possession along with other family pictures and items.
As written it says:
Amaziah Cleveland His Book bought in year 1803 in the Sixtyth year of his age Price 15 (unreadable)
Amaziah Cleveland Abigail Sprage maried January 30th 1770, Sarah Cleland Born march y 26 1772
Abigail Cleveland Died March y 25 1774
Mersena Cle Born September y 19th 1775
Meres Cle Born March y 13th 1776
Addin Cle Born December y 30th 1777
Zatter Cle Born April; y 7th 1780
Ezer Cle Born October y 12th 1781
Juna Cle Born December y 9th 1783
Persis Cle Born August y 10th 1787
Abigail Cle Born August y 27th 1789
Elphia Cle Born October y 5th 1791
Written at the bottom in different handwriting:
Abigail married John Miller, Bryantville, Ind.

There is no listing for a son Amaziah. It is strange that he did not list Sarah Marvin as his 2nd wife and the mother of his children. It is also strange as I mentioned before that there is only 6 months between Mersena and Meres. I am not worried so much about the dates. I am trying to document that Meres (my ggg grandfather) is a son of Amaziah. As far as I am concerned, this is a good document and I am satisfied that Meres is the son of Amaziah (1). I don't think the Cleveland Genealogy volumes are infallible and I believe that the listing of Amaziah as a son of Amaziah is incorrect as well as the omission of Amaziah's marriage to Abigail Sprage. As I mentioned earlier, I was in IN recently and did some research and am still trying to sort it out. I am inclined to believe Marsena may be Amaziah's father. Will work on that line soon.
Regards,
Jafra
