According to some notes I have from the SC Dept. of Archives and History and the Greenville
County Historical Society, Cleveland, SC, was named for J. Harvey Cleveland, a descendant of
Captain Robert Cleveland and Captain Jeremiah Cleveland. J. Harvey Cleveland was one of the
largest indiviual landowners in the county.

Love and blessings,
Vikki Jeanne

Thanks Vikki - that helps - it seems interesting that a northern Cleveland is in Greenville near
Cleveland --- I was wondering if that was a part of the reason for their move... I have found out
some more interesting bits of information about the abolitionists led by Benjamin F. PERRY in
Greenville -- and hope to find more details. Marjorie

I think that may be the same Benjamin Perry who provided information on Colonel Ben
Cleveland for the Draper manuscripts. :)
