Mary Cleveland Franklin was Colonel Ben's *sister.* She and Bernard Franklin had the following children, according to my information in the database: Jeremiah Franklin (b. 2 Sep 1754), Jesse Franklin (b. 3 Mar 1758~~he died a few months later), Jesse Franklin (b. 24 Mar 1760), Elizabeth *Betty* Franklin (b. 10 Mar 1762); Abner Franklin (b. 28 Apr 1764), Shadrach Franklin (b. 20 Apr 1769), Mary Franklin (b. 14 May 1771), Meshach Franklin (b. 17 Sep 1773), Abednego *Bedney* Franklin (b. 31 May 1776), Benjamin Franklin, Willis Franklin, and Jane Franklin. I am also 'granddaughter' of Bernard Franklin and Mary Cleveland. Love the stories about 'Uncle' Ben Cleveland, the great Tory fighter - fabulous biography. My 'grandfahter' was Jesse Franklin who was Aide to his Uncle Ben, and nearly lost his life when Tories tried to hang him. After the war, he was an active participant in the new federation of states, serving in the NC Legislature, graduating to the US Senate, and was the first elected Governor of NC - albeit elected by the Legislature. Beautiful home site in Fisher River Valley in the hills of Surry County, North Carolina. His brother Meshack followed his example.
