Cheryl, this may help you with your family search. This was sent to me by a cousin of mine. It was found when some old Baptist Church Records in Taylor Co. GA were being transcribed, I belive in the last few years.

"Saturday Nov 1st 1845

The Church in Conference brother Cleveland Moderator.
1st Opened a door for the reception of members and received brother A. C. Cleveland by experience.
2nd On motion agreed to go into the Choice for the ensuing year, and it resulted in the unanimos Choice of Brother Battle, the Bretheren Lee & Stewart to bear the letter. Peter Stewart, C. Clk.

(Transcriber's note: A.C. Cleveland is a person of interest to me as the name is very similar to a younger man found on the roster of Co. G, 5th Ga. Inf., "The Schley Guards."

A little research revealed that this A.C. Cleveland was Absalom Carter Cleveland (11-6-1811 to 6-22-1853), son of William & Rhoda Cleveland. He is burried at Usrey Family Cemetery a few miles west of Phillippi on the south shoulder of GA 240. Here is his family on the 1850 census.
1850 Absalom C Cleaveland 38 1811 Georgia Male Division 57, Marion, GA
Marion Co. GA Division 57 11 Sept. 1850
239/239 Absalom C. Cleaveland 38 M farmer
Lucinda 32 F
Sarah 18 F
Matilda 12 F
Augustus 11 M
William 9 M
Green 3 M
Marion 1 F
Joseph R.
Beggs 30 M overseer

Daughter Matilda married James J. West in Marion Co. on Dec. 15, 1853. She is listed as the wife of a soldier in service on the 1862 Schley Co. Salt list. No mention after that.

Two of their children James W. and Lucinda W. are buried at Usry Cemetery as well, near Col. A.C. Cleveland.

Sons Augustus C. and William A.D. Cleveland both enlisted in the Schley Guards on May 11, 1861. Augustus appears last on the roll August 31, 1862 and was presumed killed.

William A.D. Cleveland last appears on the roster of Co. D 29th Batt'n Ga Cavalry as a 1st Lt. on January 21, 1865. His fate is unknown to me."

My Cleveland records have this Absolam Carter Cleveland (I have 2 listed by that name) as a son of William Cleveland b. 08 Apr 1766 in Culpepper Co. VA d. 27 Jan 1844 in Crawford, GA and Rhonda Wright b. 1777 d. 1865 in Crawford GA.

I have this William as a s/o Jacob Cleveland & Milly (Mildred) White.

I have another Absalom Carter Cleveland b. 04 Jul 1811 d. 07 Oct 1844 in Selma, Alabama but my records say he never married. This one was s/o Benjamin Cleveland and Margaret (Peggy) Holland which is an entirely different Cleveland family in the Southern line of Clevelands.

If I can be of any further help let me know.

Nell
