Subject: Binaltech vs Alternators Tracks

From Ben's review of Alternators Tracks:
"What Tracks is still missing are the big flame decals on his hood. Takara has taken it upon themselves to add these to their blue Binaltech Tracks, but this version was available first, and frankly, while the flames would have been a nice G1 homage, they're hardly authentic, and being authentic to the real vehicle is part of the appeal of this line so I really don't miss their presence."

Now, I'd actually disagree with this statement.

Hasbro's decision to make Alternators Tracks blue, and Takara's decision to release a blue version of Binaltech Tracks is purely for the G1 homage. Consequently, the flame decos are a big plus. When I purchased my blue BT Tracks, I didn't know that it would come with flame deco stickers - and it wasn't until I saw dirge's blue BT Tracks that I discovered that the toy came with this neat G1 tip-off.

I'm not saying that Alternators or BT Tracks looks bad without the flame decos, but they really do enhance the G1 asthetic of the toy.

However the argument that Alternators Tracks' absence of the flame deco gives people a choice of making Alt. Tracks look more like the real vehicle is an inherently flawed one.

The primary reason why Binaltech Tracks was first released in yellow is because the Corvette Z06 is not produced in blue, and the Corvette company specifically requested that the toy be produced in yellow -- similar to how Mazda asked for a version of BT Meister to be made in red, as that was the flagship colour that they were using to market their vehicle. Likewise, Corvette is marketing the Z06 in yellow. Meister was simultaneously allowed to be produced in pearl white, as Mazda also produces the RX-8 in that colour, even though the red one features more prominently in their marketing.

For people who want a Tracks that transforms into a real replica of the Corvette Z06, then they should be buying the yellow version. No flame deco and as mentioned before, yellow is a colour that the Z06 is widely produced in - and not blue. The blue Tracks appeals more to fans who want to see more of a G1 tribute in the toy - hence the use of the blue colour, despite the fact that the Z06 doesn't come in blue. And I will agree wholeheartedly that the blue Tracks really does yell out, "this is Tracks!" - and to that end, the flame decos really does likewise for the vehicle mode.
