IMHO, considering how p*ss-weak the magnets are and also considering the distance between the magnet (located in the hands) from the COMMtech chips (located beneath the feet -- so that's at least about 5cm from the magnet to the chip), I severely doubt that the Force gimmick's magnetism could affect the chip. They're barely strong enough to hold the light sabres in place.

I just tested my Battle Droid COMMtech chip that has been supporting my Mace Windu figure for the last couple of days and it works fine (yes, I know I just told you this over ICQ as I type this, but I thought I'd repeat it here for the benefit of anyone else with this query).

The COMMtech chips were pretty lame gimmicks anyway. I wish we got the European Episode I figures here which came with Battle Droids instead of COMMtech chips. Still, it's a preferable gimmick to the Force hand gimmick. At least the COMMtech chip doesn't interfere with the actual playability of the toy, since it's a seperate item altogether.
