The Duloks. Supposedly another sentient species from Endor, who've never been mentioned again in the Expanded Universe of books and comics. As bad as the Ewoks cartoon was, it lasted 2 seasons, while the Droids only lasted one. Not too surprising when you consider that at this point, the Smurfs were dominating Saturday Morning. Cartoons about terminally cute creatures were in.

The Droids cartoon had to do with the adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO some time before Episode IV. Thru 2 different storylines, we saw them being owned by different masters. In the first they were owned by a speeder racer named Thall Joben, who needed them to help repair his souped up speeder, and getting involved with a young Rebel named Kea Moll. Along the way they battled Boba Fett, against whom they competed in the big race in the last episode.

In the second story, they get bought, along with another droid, by an old space miner and his nephew. The other droid turns out to be an alien in disguise. In fact, he is a prince who was brainwashed and expelled from his home by a bad guy. The droids and the miner's nephew travel to his home world to help him reclaim his throne from the bad guy.

And finally there was The Great Heap TV special. I don't remember much there, except that R2 and 3PO end up on some sort of junk planet where they have to deal with some sort of droid eating machine. R2 falls in love with a pink "female" astromech droid, who of course gets gobbled up by the machine. Can R2 save his girlfriend? Do you care? I didn't.
