Other than Optimus Prime and Megatron, I'm totally over the whole thing about trying to compare the new characters with their G1 namesakes.

As for the topic of good or evil sounding names, let's not forget that Bonecrusher was once used for the name of a Heroic Maximal. :-D

From a fanboy POV, it would've been nice if this toy was marketed as a Decepticon -- but if Hasbro went totally fanboy, then the Transformers would go bust real quick. ;p

Remember, Hasbro is really under NO obligation to give us ANY fan service, as much as we may hate to admit it. We are still a growing MINORITY of the market. We're NOT being ignored -- the fact that we're still seeing G1 references and tributes being made clearly shows signs of fan service, but at the same time, let's remember that this toyline is still being promoted to the majority of its consumers -- CHILDREN.

The main reason why the Transformers mythos is always being reinvented is not only because it's difficult to maintain continuity between series, but also because maintaining continuity can LOSE new fans. Hasbro's making a series that's easy for kids to slide into without having ever seen a previous series of Transformers before.

Of course, there are definitely advantages and disadvantages to maintaining Transformers as continuiing mythos rather than as a continuity, to be sure. But in the end, Hasbro must consider which avenue is the most profitable one to take, cos at the end of the day, they're there to make money, not to appease fanboys.

Companies will only appease the fan base if it's profitable.

Remember, Takara has given Japanese fans a LOT of fan service, yet they're simply not raking in the profits that Hasbro is -- Takara would be dead now if not for Beyblade. Of course, the unfortunate side of that is that Takara is putting all their attention on Beyblade and not enough attention on Transformers and now they're almost ignoring their market altogether and ONLY appealing to fans with their re-releases. Fans recognise that Transformers is currently hanging on in Japan by a very thin thread -- fact: there has been NO new Transformer toys or TV show in Japan for the last TWO years.
