Whoa! Issue #5 finally came out last Thursday!!

::::::SPOILERS AHOY:::::::::

Anyway, here are my impressions so far:

* Pat Lee still cannot draw humans well at all.

* Why are all the Autobots TWICE the size they were? Bumblebee must transform into one fekkin' *huge* punch buggy!!

* WHERE did those anti virus blasters come from?? In the last issue, we did see Wheeljack analysing the virus and conducting studies in Canada -- but there's nothing that tells us how or when he created those blasters! Big continuity gap here!
Wheeljack: "Lemme pull a lame plot device out of my butt -- tadaaa!! Anti-viral blasters!!"

* The visual narrative on page three was bad -- in one panel we see Wheeljack blasting away at the virus, then for no apparent reason, he's giving Huffer a robo-noogie. One presumption could be that Huffer was also using his blaster as well and when Wheeljack realised that they had to combine their power (god this is a weak plot device), he quickly stopped blasting and made Huffer stop too -- so it is PRESUMED, because there's NO evidence of this at all. What we DO see is Wheeljack blasting away, then suddenly chastising Huffer!! This is really really poor visual narration -- the same kind of crappy visual narrative that spawned my extensive criticism of the fight between Devastator and Superion in the last issue. Pat Lee still has a LOT to learn about using the cinematic technique in comic books.

* When Devastator steps on Trailbreaker -- I think it would've been cool to see Trailbreaker make a futile attempt to save himself by erecting a forcefield and having it crushed (much like the scenes of seeing Sentinel's shields failing in BW). And before anyone argues that the yellow flashes on his hands and feet are supposed to represent the forcefield, if you look throughout various other parts of the comic, it's clear that it's just a generic impact shock illustration -- as seen when Devastator claps Sideswipe and Sunstreaker and also when Prime impacts on the ground when falling from Devastator.

* When the Autobots are fighting Devastator, they're launching ALL their initial attacks unarmed -- WHY?? Is there any reason why they're not using their rifles, missile launchers etc??? *sigh*
Even their unarmed technique is much to moan about. We see Sideswipe and Sunstreaker gliding towards Devastator and PUNCHING the air at the same time... why?? (and yes, it's a definite punch, it's not a normal running arm posture, as the arms tend to arc up and down when running) Are they trying to affixiate Devastator by punching all the oxygen molecules out of the surrounding atmosphere? Wouldn't that also mean that they'd also suffocate?? Do Transformers even BREATHE? !
When Devastator is approaching Prime -- Prime doesn't pull out his rifle and start shooting -- why?? He's supposed to be an expert marksman!! But oooooh no, he has to go all fanboy and approach Devastator TFTM style... which made some sense in TFTM, cos he had multiple opponents that he wanted to bypass quickly in order to get to Megatron, but in the case of confronting a giant foe, I fail to see the function of NEEDING to make such a close quarter assault. And why didn't Devastator just smack Prime like he did to Sideswipe and Sunstreaker? Oh nooo, just as Devastator LET Superion clock him in the last issue, he then LETS Optimus Prime fly all the way up to his collar and pummel it with his bare fists!! How STUPID is this gestalt?? Then Prime pulls out his rifle that, for some reason he didn't want to use at long range even though guns are a long range weapon, and blasts Devastator at close range!! Ggggyyyaaaaarrrrggghhh!!! Prime is so lucky that Devastator is clearly a complete MORON in these comics.

* Oh wow! There's kinda like... sort of a plot here. Sorta. (beats the mindless fight fests we've been assaulted with till now) -- why did we have to wait this long though? This plot is crawling at the speed of an injured snail.

* Kudos to Ramil Sunga and Gary Yeung for a top notch job on colouring and other groovy visual effects. I particularly liked the use of the focus pull on the close up of Prime's face on the panel just before he shoots Devastator.
