There is a picture of this is the Generations book, with Metroplex's entry. You can also see Motormaster and Onslaught attached to Trypticon in city mode.

Their third modes were actually documented in the instructions for the toys (you can see the instructions at http://tfinstructions.cjb.net). I always thought that Silverbolt's base mode was pretty weak, followed by Motormaster's (even though they had put a whole bunch of extra joints in to facilitate it). They work well in combined mode with Metroplex (well, the Autobots do; Trypticon was never released in Australia, so I doubt I'll get the opportunity to find out what the Decepticons look like first hand).
